blog #2

Ø Describe your ideal Instructor/Professor.
Probably one who is understanding, explained how to do the assignments, and who cared about me getting a good grade.

Ø “I knew it when I studied it, but I forgot it on the test.” How can students study differently to prevent this from happening?
Maybe by studying the material right after you get it, then look over it again every night before the test.

Ø How do you study for quizzes/tests?
I make note cards and review a lot before the test. I also look over diagrams in the book.

Ø What do you have trouble with on quizzes/tests?
I have problems remembering the material, I can read over it and study it for hours. But then when it comes to the test I cant remember it.

Blog #1

Ø List your own quote, favorite saying, song, or other expression of your feelings today.
Live live to the fullest
Ø List initial observations of your new environment.
It is definatly way different than highschool, its a big change. I guess its a better change because I dont have to be here all the time all day long. But I for sure have way more work to do in way less time. Its kinda stressful
Ø List initial observations of your classes.
They are big except my en111 class. The professors go really fast.
Ø What observations have you made about other students?
A lot of them seem to all know everthing, and how to do everything, and I dont
Ø About your instructors?
Well it would be a lot easier if I could understand one of them. One seems kinda rude, and my other one goes really fast.
Ø What do you think will be your biggest challenge(s) academically this semester?
To manage my time wisely and get all of my work done, keep up in my classes. And to pass chemistry and biology
Ø Reiterate a term or concept you learned in Anatomy this week.
cutaneous apendages are things like some glands, hair, hair folicle, and nails
Ø List a few pleasant events that happened during your first weeks at NMU.
I met some people, and I seem to have found my way around campus fine, and that is what I was worried the most about
Ø List habits you already possess that make you successful in college.
I go over rewrite my notes or make note cards for my chemistry and biology to help me study
Ø List habits (timewasters?) you can change or modify, or need to lose.
I already realized when I go to do homework I also log onto facebook, so then I spend more time on facebook then I do on my homework. But I already realized this and stopped doing it.
Ø Explain how you determine what to write down in notes during lectures.
Most of my professors write down the main points on either the overhead or the board. Otherwise I just try to write down almost everything they say, but all the things they say are important to write down
Ø Based on your first readings in the TCB text, describe the differences between Active Learning & Passive Learning (reading, note-taking, etc..)
Active is when you pay attention and trying your hardest to do things. And passive is when you just lazily do things like instead of activley taking notes you just underline things.
Ø Based on your first readings in the BT text, list TWO of favorite quotes and explain why they "speak" to you.
"I end up in facebook albums of people I don't even know!!! Between that and instant messaging I can blow the whole nigt." I choose this one because this is what I do when I try to do homework and facebook at the same time.
"Dont bring a laptop! even if you plan on taking notes, you'll just end up on Mind Sweeper or surfing the web" I choose this one also because this is what I would do if I take out my laptop in class.
Ø Finally, name one goal (personal, academic, etc..) you have for yourself next week.
I plan on keeping up on reviewing my notes, and not try to review all of them at once and be overwhelmed.
